BATIK TECHNIQUE BY SATISH JOSHI | Blending technique developed by Satish Joshi |Mr. Satish Joshi has developed a technique in batik to blend the colors and the separation lines do not occur after dyeing and waxing. In addition to this, the technique gives a three – dimensional effect to an originally two – dimensional art of batik.
In his painting of group of dogs, Mr. Satish Joshi has used this technique of color blending. This work was produced in 1987 – before his journey to Indonesia, the homeland of batik art. Mrs. T.T. Soerjanto (Batik specialist of Balai Besar Kerajinan Dan Batik, Yogyakarta, Indonesia,1988), found his technique to be novel and something never seen before in batik.
HORSE AND LADY
Batik is a two dimensional art. This photograph extracted from one of his paintings presents itself as an example of the same. One can see the separation lines between colors due to wax and dyeing. This is originally what one can do with batik.
BUTTERFLIES
BATIK TECHNIQUE BY SATISH JOSHI | Batik technique developed by Satish Joshi combined with Indonesian ornamental design style |
As mentioned earlier batik is originally a 2- dimensional art. The butterflies are made with Indonesian Tjanting technique and the leaves are made by using his technique of color blending. He has given a 3- dimensional effect showing depth in the painting. In addition one can observe overlapping of wings of butterflies giving superimposing effect that can only be possible in photography (Double Exposure Photography). If you expose two pictures in a single negative, the positive print of negative gives you the impression of both the pictures.
